Pursuing Your Dream to Become An Actor
A few simple steps towards becoming an actor
Want to be an actor? Before you commit to an actor’s life, you ought to consider
your goals very carefully. If you become an actor, you might never become a star, and you’ll often have to find a
day job to support yourself. However, becoming a working actor is an attainable goal for anyone with talent, drive,
and commitment to put themselves out there. Here are a few tips to get your acting career started:
1.Acting does not rest entirely on talent. It also takes a great deal of skill and work. In other words, acting
means training. Whether you’re training on set or training in acting classes at school, training will help you
become a better actor and a better performer. Training options for actors include full-time theatre degrees and
classes with local acting schools, community services, or companies. Training may also include being a stage hand.
Stage managing is a fantastic way to learn about the craft behind the scenes. Although it won’t let you participate
directly, it will be a good place to start, especially if you are short on funds for tuition. Also consider
internships and short, intensive courses at theater schools.
2.Digital and editing tools have now grown so sophisticated and affordable that almost anyone can make a movie
nowadays. As a beginning actor, this means you have more opportunities to work in student films as well as
independent low-budget films.
3. If you live in an area such as New York or Los Angeles where major film or television is produced, do some
background work. Although it is not glamorous and pays badly, it will help you understand the harsh realities of an
actor’s life. It is one of the most valuable ways to explore whether this career is right for you. Find background
casting agencies through Google.
4.Scrape together the money for a headshot—a good headshot. Your headshot should be flattering, but it should still
look like you. You should face the camera, make eye-contact with the viewer, and avoid wearing anything that
detracts from your face. This image represents you as a person, so don’t skimp out on quality. This is a major
investment that is worthwhile. The difference between a hundred dollar headshot and a six hundred dollar headshot
is immediately noticeable. Try to spend at least two hundred dollars for a good-quality headshot.
5.As acting involves researching how other actors approach their material, you should educate yourself as much as
possible by watching movies, television, attending theater, and learning your lines. You must also keep your body
and voice in great shape.
6.You should learn how to market yourself to others. You should have a good understanding of what roles you are
most suited for. Try building a website and writing a good cover letter. Be sure to put together a mailing list of
people who might give you work opportunities.
